Building the Education Revolution - $101.9 million for local schools in Scullin 

The Australian Government is investing in the education, skills and training of our young people to benefit our nation for future generations.

For local schools in Scullin, the Economic Stimulus Plan includes $101.9 million for 87 projects, funding the building and rebuilding of primary and secondary school infrastructure and maintenance of school buildings, as well as new science laboratories and language learning centres.

The amount of funding to local schools under the Building the Education Revolution is unprecedented in our area.  

$1.2 M in new facilities for Mill Park Heights Primary School with a  new student learning area, sports oval and staff area, all part of the Australian Government’s Building Education Revolution (BER). The sporting facilities include a synthetic soccer field, cricket nets and a four lane running track and a four square court.  Harry officially opened the new facilities.

New training opportunity for local secondary students

A Trade Training Centre will built at Peter Lalor Secondary College providing skills to secondary students in the trades of carpentry and joinery, and motor mechanic.
 
The Trade Training Centre will be purposely built with industry training spaces and equipment. Seven other local schools are part of a cluster of schools that will use this facility, providing opportunities and training pathways for their students.

Opening new trade schoolParade College received over $700,000 from the Australian Government’s Trade Training Centres in Schools Program.

The Trades Training Centres in Schools Program is an important element of the Government’s Education Revolution and one of a number of initiatives designed to improve the quality of schooling and build a highly qualified, well-trained Australian Workforce.

The Trades Training Centre provides recognised industry training in a variety of areas identified by skill shortages. The training will include building and construction (carpentry and bricklaying), Furnishings (Cabinet making) and Electro/technology (Shared technology).

Parade College’s Trades Training Centre will assist in addressing the skills shortage in these construction and technology related fields in the Northern Metropolitan Region of Melbourne.

Free sport for local school kids

11 local schools and after-school care centres in Scullin are now part of the Active After-School Communities Program - a Federal Government initiative to encourage children into sport and physical activity after school.

The after-school program is free to students, and is a fantastic way to get children into sport.

Computers for local schools

Every student in Years 9 to 12 in our area will benefit from the National Secondary School Computer Fund.

Peter Lalor Secondary College, Lalor North Secondary College, Lalor Secondary College, Epping Secondary College, Thomastown Secondary College, Mill Park Secondary College, St Monica’s College, Parade College, Northside Christian College and Merriang Special Development School have all installed computers provided through the Australian National Secondary School Computer Fund.

All secondary schools in our region have now been provided the opportunity to obtain funds to bring them to a 1 to 2 computer to student ratio, including funding to address on-costs associated with the use of additional computers.

This investment in technology to Secondary Schools is a vital step towards creating a world-class education system for Australia and delivering a Digital Education Revolution.

Science and Language Centres

Three local secondary schools in Scullin, Lalor Secondary College, St Monica's College and Thomastown Secondary College, received a total of $5.9 million to build new or refurbish science laboratories and language centres.

The works are funded under the Science and Language Centres for 21st Century Secondary Schools of the Building the Education Revolution (BER) program. This funding is going to secondary schools that have demonstrated their need through a competitive process.

National School Pride program

43 local primary and secondary schools in Scullin are receiving a total of $6.775 million for minor infrastructure and refurbishment projects under the National School Pride (NSP) program.

Under Round One of the program 18 local schools received a total of $2.85million, and under Round Two, 25 local schools received over $3.92 million. 

The $1.3 billion National School Pride program is delivering much needed funding for school infrastructure projects and support local jobs.
