Pricing Carbon

Prime Minister Pricing carbon is the right thing to do, it is an essential economic reform. Australians are the biggest polluters per capita in the developed world. Our climate is changing - we need to reduce carbon pollution now. If we delay pricing carbon now, we risk losing the jobs of the future and threaten our long term prosperity. This is the best way to stop businesses polluting and get them to invest in clean energy. Now is our time to build a clean energy future.

Julia Gillard
Prime Minister of Australia

Extra premises in South Morang to be connected to NBN

2,600 extra premises in South Morang will be included in the NBN rollout over the next twelve months. This is great news for residents and businesses on either side of Gorge Rd and to the east of Plenty Rd.

The National Broadband Network Company (NBN Co) offers high-speed online access for households, and will lead to substantial benefits for local businesses and employment opportunities for young people in the future.

$14 million for Academic and Research Precinct at the Northern Hospital

The Federal Government will provide $14 million towards the constrution of the new $35.5 million Northern Health Teaching, Training and Research Precinct, to be located at the Northern Hospital in Epping.

This is a vital project for Melbourne's North. The precinct will provide up to 665 undergraduate, graduate and post graduate student placements in the areas of medicine, nursing and a range of allied health disciplines.

Volunteers honoured for their community service

Volunteers provide a critical role in our community - with their hard work, energy and committment.

As part of the National Volunteers Awards, Harry presented certificates and awards to over 40 volunteers. Without the committment and dedication of these volunteers, community groups and organisations in our local community would simply not survive.

Cares and understands the local community

Jobs and community services, schools, health reform, the environment and support for the disadvantaged.

Harry works hard to ensure that the northern suburbs of Melbourne gets its fair share of benefits.  His actions have always been about the local area and how Labor can improve the lives of the residents of Scullin.

The new centre includes 6 classrooms and an open learning area with access to ICT, and was built as part of the Australian Government's Building the Education Revolution (BER).  They replace the relocatable buildings teachers and students previously worked in.

Almost every local government and non-government school is benefiting from the Building the Education Revolution program.

Here is a full list of the 87 projects at local schools.
