The Federal Member for Scullin, Harry Jenkins has welcomed the announcement that Northside Christian College in Bundoora has been approved under the Investing in Our Schools Programme for independent schools
"Northside Christian College is receiving $72,267 for the purchase of state-of-the-art equipment for their new music centre and to re-surface its basketball court," Mr Jenkins said. "When I recently opened the Performing Arts and Technology building at the school, I was impressed by the musical ability of the students, so this funding absolutely hits the right note."
Mr Jenkins congratulated Principal Stephen Leslie and the college community on their funding success.
"I am very pleased the college has received this funding because it represents a ‘value add’ for our local students," Mr Jenkins said. "Keeping equipment and facilities up-to-date, safe and reliable is a big job. Funding of this nature means that a school community doesn’t have to spend precious time fundraising and allows staff to focus on the learning environment."
Principal Stephen Leslie said the funds will be used to purchase music technology equipment - IMac computers, to run the Logic sequencing and arranging program, and digital recording and mixing gear.
"Our students are very upbeat about this, and the enrichment this new equipment will bring to the music program in the College," he said. "The College is also extremely grateful for the help and support of Lee and his team at Main Street Music, who have been strong supporters of our music program for many years."
"The sporting side of our school is also looking forward to our basketball court getting a new surface," Mr Leslie said. "Our school has grown considerably in recent years and grants like this help us to develop a leading-edge learning environment."
