130,000 local residents need Medicare Office - not EasyClaim deception
The Federal Member for Scullin Harry Jenkins MP has labelled Medicare Australia’s claim that the EasyClaim system makes local Medicare offices unnecessary as farcical.
“A survey conducted by my office of GP clinics operating in Scullin in the southern suburbs of the City of Whittlesea reveals that of 31 local General Practice (GP) clinics, only one has an EasyClaim facility and only another two are intending to install them,” Mr Jenkins said. “It is little wonder that the Howard Government is desperately throwing money at the EasyClaim system to financially entice GPs to use it.”
“It is deceitful to tell the 130,000 residents of the City of Whittlesea who would benefit from a Medicare office that EasyClaim will meet their needs,” Mr Jenkins pointed out.
Medicare Australia’s 7 August 2007 letter to Mr Jenkins stated “pending the take-up of this electronic claiming initiative, Medicare Australia will not be opening any new Medicare office.”
“Medicare Australia’s refusal to support a local Medicare office can now be seen for what it is; a sham,” Mr Jenkins explained. “It is about time that Medicare Australia established an office so that the people of Scullin receive their fair share when it comes to service.”
