The Federal Member for Scullin, Harry Jenkins has welcomed the announcement that eighteen local state schools have received funding approval for 26 projects under the third round of the Investing in Our Schools Programme.
"The successful projects reflect the diversity of student needs right across our local community," Mr Jenkins said. "They range from the $106,000 Peter Lalor Secondary College is getting to construct a new canteen to $97,000 for furniture and computer equipment at Greensborough's Apollo Parkways Primary School."
Mr Jenkins congratulated the eighteen successful schools on their funding success.
"The principals, staff and parents of our local school communities are committed to providing our students with the best possible education," Mr Jenkins said. "To keep student facilities and equipment up-to-date, safe and reliable requires a lot of planning and hard work so I commend everyone involved with these very worthwhile projects."
Kevin Rudd in recent weeks has set education as Labor's top national priority.
"I believe that education is our most secure pathway for the future and wholeheartedly support the need for an Education Revolution in this country after years of neglect by the Howard Government," Mr Jenkins explained. "From my regular visits to our local schools, I know that they will put these additional funds to good use for the benefit of their students and school communities."
"I will continue to work to make sure that schools in Scullin are receiving their fare share of funding from the Howard Government. I will in due course compare the funding allocated to schools in my electorate with allocations to schools in Coalition-held seats.
