$1.3 Million to Support Local Family Services

Harry Jenkins MP, Federal Member for Scullin has today welcomed the announcement that six local family support services in the City of Whittlesea will benefit from more than $1.3 million in funding from the Federal Government’s Family Support Program.

The Family Support Program provides services to support families, improve children’s wellbeing and safety and build more resilient communities.

"Six local organisations in the City of Whittlesea have had their contracts renewed for a further three years, giving them greater certainty and allowing them to focus less on paperwork and more on providing essential support services," Mr Jenkins said.

CatholicCare Archdiocese of Melbourne in Bundoora will receive $41,358 for their Family Dispute Resolution Service to assist families resolve their disputes relating to family law issues including both child and property related matters outside of the court system.

CatholicCare Archdiocese of Melbourne in Bundoora in conjunction with Centacare Catholic Diocese of Ballarat will receive $877,028 for their Parenting Orders Program which assists separating families who are in high conflict to work out parenting arrangements in a manner which encourages consideration of what is in the child’s best interest.

Parentzone, Lalor will receive $6,000 for their Sing and Grow program, a national music therapy project focused on improving outcomes for young children through prevention and early intervention work with families with complex needs.

CatholicCare Archdiocese of Melbourne in South Morang will receive $52,792 to provide Drought Counselling Support Services for small business and farming families in formerly drought declared areas.

Children’s Protection Society (CPS) in Thomastown will receive $97,855 for their I’m a Dad Program which aims to increase the knowledge and parenting skills of new Dad’s, increase men’s knowledge of and access to support services in the local community and raise the awareness of how important they are to their child.

Carrington Blvd Kindergarten in Thomastown will receive $281,565 to assist Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander parents and carers to build positive relationships with their children and extended family by providing a range of activities aimed at enhancing individual self esteem, parenting knowledge and family well being.

"The invaluable work undertaken by these organisations is having a positive impact on the lives of the many people in our community who use these services and that is why this funding is so important," Mr Jenkins said.
