November start for South Morang NBN Fibre Rollout
Tuesday, 6 September 2011
The Member for Scullin Harry Jenkins MP today welcomed the announcement fibre will start being rolled out in South Morang in less than three months.
Mr Jenkins said he was pleased that contractual arrangements between NBN Co and successful tenderer Transfield had been finalised.
"Transfield as part of their contract with NBN Co are required to have work underway in South Morang in November," Mr Jenkins said. "This is exciting news for residents and local businesses."
"High speed broadband will change the way we deliver education, health, entertainment and information services in future.
"Every premises and community facility within the South Morang site will have the opportunity to connect to high-speed fibre," Mr Jenkins said.
It is estimated that the average time from the start of works to the activation of first services will be approximately 12 months.
"I will be meeting with NBN Co’s local representative in coming weeks," Mr Jenkins said. "I will be discussing the detail of the South Morang rollout and the work that will follow into surrounding areas in order to keep the community informed."
